What Event App Solution is the right option for your event?2017 was a turbulent year for the world of event apps: After Apple left developers in shock by banning all templated apps, they conceded huge ground back to the industry and revised their guidelines in December. Now, all options are open again to choose a Society App, Event App or Vendor-branded Container App. But what differentiates these solutions? We prepared an overview to help you choose the perfect app for your conference, company or association.

Are Templated, Client-Branded Apps Allowed?

Yes. The new App Store Guidelines allow templated apps if they (1) provide unique customer experiences and (2) are submitted directly by the provider of the app’s content. Companies who wish to publish a branded app need a Developer account and submit the apps on their own. An Apple Developer account costs $99/year and a Google Play Developer account $25 (one time). Make sure that your event app provider can assist you in setting up these accounts and in summiting your app (We offer this service at no additional cost as part of each branded app project).

The Review Process

After the submission to the App Store, your app will have to pass a number of software checks and then be reviewed by an App Store team member. This process takes about 2 days (Click here for up-to-date times). Should Apple find your app to be not unique enough, it will be denied and you need to make the necessary changes before resubmitting the app. Common reasons for rejections can be found here. Apps submitted to the Google Play Store or within a vendor-branded container app are published immediately.
